Genie of the Ring: When Thom's wife was killed by a demon, Thom found a way to enact revenge. He bound the demon to his wedding ring, which he wears always. Though he is a complete pacifist now (Thom cannot roll to attack in any circumstances or he loses access to this talent for the week), he may, in extreme circumstances, rub the ring to summon the demon to do 1d10 damage to a single enemy.
Vengeful Demon: The demon in no way wishes to serve Thom. In fact, the demon rages against Thom and the ring that contains him. Upon a backfire, the ring is heated from within, dealing 1d5 burn damage to Thom.

History: Thom was born on an Earth suffering from a literal demonic invasion. He grew up wanting to be a priest to help seal off the underworld to stop the incoming armies. Once he joined the seminary, it quickly became clear that he was not mentally equipped for such a quiet, focused lifestyle, though he yearned for it. He was, however, exceedingly skilled at dispatching demons, as he found out during an attack on the seminary.
Once he left the seminary, Thom focused on killing demons as part of the Corps. He met his wife when he saved her from a demon attack (not that she wasn't putting up a good fight herself.) It was one of the best things that ever happened to him. They loved each other so much. But the war wasn't going so well.
When she was killed, he lost the will to keep fighting. He'd never liked it much, anyway; he'd been doing it cause he'd always been doing it. But then he found painting, when his therapist suggested he try something to take his mind off of the grief.
Painting was what he'd always been looking for. It allowed him to quiet his mind and find the peace he was seeking at seminary. He moved out to the middle of nowhere and spent all his time painting. He was tired of the endless hordes of demons. He was tired of grieving over his dead wife. And so he painted in a cabin full of creatures until one day he was schooped up by the Hotel.
